FAQs Diploma in Mosaic Studies

When do applications open?

Applications for the academic year 2023-2024 are open now. Please follow this link.

How do I apply?

All applications are to be made online here

You will need to submit a portfolio of work. This must be submitted as documentation in either JPG or PDF format of no more than 12 images. The work can be of any artistic medium and doesn’t need to be mosaic. You will also need to send us:

  • an up to 800 word statement of your interest and motivation in the course (why you want to study at London School of Mosaic, what you are hoping to learn and what is your experience that supports this goal);

  • copies of your previous qualifications: GCSEs and A-Levels or any equivalent international qualifications, previous academic degrees;

  • your CV

Based on the portfolio and statement, we will select candidates, and invite them to a face-to face or phone interview.

What will I learn from the course?

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal academic requirements to enter the course. We choose students on the basis of their portfolio, personal statement and experience.

How many days do I need to attend the course if studying full time?

There are two days of core teaching, which will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays. Alongside this, students are expected to develop their skills and techniques.

Teaching starts at 10:30am and finishes at 5:30pm latest. We teach over three terms, which last for up to 11 weeks each, including a half term reading week.

Can I study part-time?

Yes. You would be expected to complete the diploma course in two year instead of one, taking 60 credits each year. You will be expected to attend a minimum of one day per week (either on a Monday or Tuesday from 10:30am to 4pm).

What qualification will I gain?

Diploma students will gain a Diploma in Mosaic Studies validated by the SQA Scottish Qualifications Authority. The qualification is valued as the first year of a university degree at Level 7 SQCF (Scottish Framework) and Level 4 RQF (English framework).

Students of our three-year course will receive a BA in Mosaic Studies (this is still under development and being validated with a UK university partner).

How much does it cost?

The full-time one-year diploma course costs £6,250 for home-students (UK and EU), which includes materials, tuition and use of equipment including desktop computers. For part-time students the cost is £3,125 per year for two years.

The fees for our degree will be available soon.

Is there a scholarship available and what is the criteria ?

We are offering 12 Leverhulme Arts Scholarships between the academic years 2021/22 and 2024/25. These are for students unable to fund fees for our diploma, and support those under-represented in the mosaic sector. You can find more information and criteria here.

We have an established relationship with the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust. They fund students who wish to professionalise their practice and select on the basis of excellence.

There are also grants available for individuals on the basis of their background, which can be found on Turn2Us. You may also want to contact your local heritage association for funding. Other possible grant bodies are:

William Berry Trust
Southsquare Trust
Diamond Education Grant
Princes Trust

Do you provide visas for international students?

Due to Brexit, we are in the process of applying for a government licence to sponsor students (e.g. Tier 4 visa). For the moment we are unable to provide sponsorship via this route.

For our diploma course, you can explore the option of obtaining a "Short-term study visa", which will give up to 11 months in the UK. This is only possible if you also study an English-language course in parallel to our diploma.

Please refer to the UK government website to find out what visa you may need.
